1872
First National Bank & Trust Company was granted its
original charter on January 20, 1872, under the name
of the DeWitt County National Bank, and was the first
nationally chartered bank in DeWitt County |

The Bank was founded with the capital investment of
$50,000 provided by Col. Thomas Snell, J. Thorton
Snell, And William R. Carle, who became the first
president. |

1905
The Bank opened a savings department in connection
with the existing commercial department. It also
underwent its first remodeling, adding a new feature
to banking, safe deposit boxes. |

1929
The Bank survived the widespread panic that ensued
with the crash of the stock market and the Great
Depression, under the leadership of Richard Snell,
president. In 1936, Thomas Snell Dinsmore,
grandson of one of the original founders, became
president, and the bank assumed the assets of the
Farmer's and Merchant's Bank of Wapella |

1948
The Bank continued to mirror the growth and
modernization of the nation. It doubled its
size, adding four teller windows, a night depository,
two additional vaults, and 500 safe deposit boxes. |

1969
The Bank's most extensive remodeling took place.
Completed in March, the exterior looks nearly the same
today. |

1972
The drive-in facility was built and opened for added
customer convenience. A drive-by ATM was added
in 1992. The drive-in is open Monday through
Friday until 5:30 p.m. and on Saturdays until noon. |

1974
The Bank's name was changed from DeWitt County
National Bank to First National Bank and Trust Company
to reflect the addition of the Trust Department.
The Trust Department handles trusts, durable powers of
attorney, land and insurance trusts, and estates. |

1997
The First National Bank and Trust Company celebrated
its 125th year of serving DeWitt county |

2000
Online Banking is added providing
greater customer access to their account information
in a secure online environment. |
2005
August: First National Bank goes "live" with Online Bill
Payment.October: John M. Killian, Chairman and President of First National Bank and
Trust Company, announces that the Bank will be constructing a new building
at Mariah Commercial Park on Route 54 West across from Clinton High School.
Construction will begin in the spring of 2006 and be completed in the spring of
2007. “This investment shows our commitment to the
community and our faith in the future of First National Bank and Trust Company
and DeWitt County,” said Killian. May 26, 2007: First
National Bank opens it's new main facility at 2 Kelli Court in Clinton. |
